Effect of Mixing Conditions on Dispersion and Degradation Behavior of HDPE/UHMWPE Blends

High density polyethylene (HDPE) / ultra high molecular weight (UHMWPE) blend is expected as an all-polyolefin recycle material that can achieve both mechanical properties and a continuous melt-mixing process. In order to improve the of polymer blends, optimal mixing required good dispersibility low degradation. this study, effect conditions on dispersion degradation behavior HDPE/UHMWPE blends were investigated. Neat HDPE with 5% UHMWPE obtained by melt in internal batch mixer. Time mixing, Specific Energy Input (SEI), rotation speed rotors changed. From results microscopic observation differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), progressed increase SEI regardless rotor speed. The Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) show chain scission was also promoted SEI. other hands, oscillatory shear test storage modulus G’ not only but Furthermore, significantly suppressed nitrogen atmosphere.
